Spinnaker Development is a family owned and operated company located in Newport Beach, Ca. The firm was established in January of 2009 by two brother’s David and Mike Close. The brother’s capitalized an opportunity during the downturn of the real estate market to purchase and develop original condition properties within the communities of their hometown, Newport Beach. With over 15 years of experience as a custom homebuilder & real estate developer and over 50 custom homes under his portfolio David engaged his younger brother Mike to combine their talents. Mike’s background in real estate and construction along with his youth and energy provided a great balance with his mentor and older brother. Together David and Mike have shown the vision and passion to create some of Newport’s finest homes. The two have designed, built and sold 7 homes in a volatile real estate market all in the existing communities of Newport Beach. With near record sales points & quick transactions in each respective community the Close’s have shown their product will not only stand the test of these tumultuous times as well as fill the needs of their markets top tier buyers. Spinnaker Development has become a respected local business within the community. Both partners are active in local philanthropy as well as residents within the communities in which they build. Spinnaker Development will strive to become “the” builder in Newport Beach for years to come.

the past

David Close has been a high end custom homebuilder in Orange County, Ca for over 15 years. His current general contracting business Pacific Design Estates Construction has built over 50 custom homes in the neighborhoods of Shady Canyon, Emerald Bay, Balboa Island, Lido Island, & Pelican Hill as well as many other surrounding Orange County neighborhoods. With experience as both a high end builder as well as a successful real estate developer the idea of creating a new local development firm was very exciting. David’s experience with the most discerning clientele has molded his ambition for perfection. Many builders & contractors have come and gone in a volatile industry such as this but David always knew that “reputation” would separate himself from the rest. David’s younger brother Mike has spent the past decade in the real estate & construction industry. With experience as a realtor apprentice, laborer, administrative assistant, technician, & project foremen Mike has seen all aspects of the business and experienced several first hand. It seemed like a simple fit for the brothers and close friends to combine their experience and talents into a new company that they both envisioned. Mike’s eye for perfection stems from life long exposure to the custom home market. From his work as a sub contractor to his experience in real estate sales Mike knew that the development industry was lacking something. The age of customer service and dependability is now, and the two brothers have keyed in on that. In this world the customer comes first and your product is the direct relation with such individual. The two brothers knew that with their combined talents they could take the country’s strongest & most powerful real estate market by storm.

the present

Spinnaker Development was born in January of 2009. The firm now has purchased 12 properties in its short history and has already sold 7 homes with the other 5 in the design/build phase. The market of Newport Beach demands excellence and the Close’s have delivered. The firm has already reached record sales points in the communities of Baycrest, Irvine Terrace & Bayshores. Spinnaker has also sold 4 properties completely furnished as well as an additional custom home which was pre sold during the construction phase. A Spinnaker built Irvine Terrace property was also featured on the 2011 Corona Del Mar home tour. Today Spinnaker Development stands as a thriving local business, family owned and operated by two Newport Beach locals. Spinnaker will also facilitate client business as a Design/Build Firm. With and in house approach, we provide all aspects of the build from Architecture, to interior design as well as project management and general contracting services. With an emphasis on providing the finest quality product as well as ultimate customer service the team plans on being strong players in their market for years to come.

Spinnaker’s goal is to purchase, develop and resell several properties each year all within the original communities of Newport Beach and Corona Del Mar. The firm’s vision is to provide the highest quality product in turnkey fashion. With an in home dinner on the homeowner’s first night to a well stocked refrigerator & pantry the firm has taken a slightly different approach than it’s predecessors.
